چکیده

Wide field BVI photometry and CO(1→0) observations are presented in the region of the open cluster NGC 6520 and the dark molecular cloud Barnard 86. From the analysis of the optical data we find that the cluster is rather compact, with a radius of 1.0±0.5 arcmin, smaller than previous estimates. The cluster age is 150±50 Myr and the reddening EB−V =0.42±0.10. The distance from the Sun is estimated to be 1900±100 pc, and it is larger than previous estimates. We finally derive basic properties of the dark nebula Barnard 86 on the assumption that it lies at the same distance of the cluster. Subject headings: open clusters: general — open clusters: individual(NGC 6520)

NGC 1333: A Nearby Burst of Star Formation

NGC 1333 is the currently most active region of star formation in the Perseus molecular cloud. The presence of emission-line stars and Herbig-Haro objects first established NGC 1333 as an active region of star formation. Today, NGC 1333 is one of the best studied extremely young clusters of low to intermediate mass stars. This region is rich in sub-mm cores, embedded YSOs, radio continuum sourc...

Constraints on Cold Dark Matter in the Gamma - ray Halo of NGC 253

A gamma-ray halo in a nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253 was found by the CANGAROO-II Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT). By fitting the energy spectrum with expected curves from Cold Dark Matter (CDM) annihilations, we constrain the CDM-annihilation rate in the halo of NGC 253. Upper limits for the CDM density were obtained in the wide mass range between 0.5 and 50 TeV. Although these...

Water Abundance in Molecular Cloud Cores

We present Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS) observations of the 110 → 101 transition of orthoH2O at 557 GHz toward 12 molecular cloud cores. The water emission was detected in NGC 7538, ρ Oph A, NGC 2024, CRL 2591, W3, W3(OH), Mon R2, and W33, and was not detected in TMC-1, L134N, and B335. We also present a small map of the H2O emission in S140. Observations of the H18 2 O line we...

Turbulence Driven by Outflow - Blown Cavities in the Molecular Cloud of Ngc 1333

Outflows from young stellar objects have been identified as a possible source of turbulence in molecular clouds. To investigate the relationship between outflows, cloud dynamics and turbulence, we compare the kinematics of the molecular gas associated with NGC 1333, traced in CO(1-0), with the distribution of young stellar objects (YSOs) within. We find a velocity dispersion of ∼ 1− 1.6km/s in ...

Probing the Nature of Dark Matter through QSO Distribution in the Fields of Galactic Halos

The amplification caused by gravitational light bending by compact objects in a foreground galaxy can affect the apparent number density of background QSOs, as well as their distribution in the fields of galactic halos. In this work we investigate the distribution of QSOs in the fields of galactic halos caused by point mass lensing effect and singular isothermal lensing effect, and apply the mi...
